New weather maps have revealed when the UK will be hit by a 26C Spanish plume. After weeks of wet, damp and overcast weather, Britain is forecast to enjoy a prolonged period of hot weather. By Monday, very warm air will extend from Portugal and Spain towards the UK and then on to Scandinavia by Wednesday.

According to recent Netweather maps, the temperatures will peak at around 26C next Wednesday with the hottest temperatures being seen in the south and south east. Cities such as London, Reading, and Swindon will be subject to the highest temperatures.

Meanwhile, further south, the mercury will be slightly lower on the south coast with the likes of Southampton, Brighton, Dover, and Plymouth seeing slightly lower temperatures of around 19C to 25C.

North of London, temperatures will continue to fall for cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Blackpool, a trend that continues the further north in the UK someone is.

In Scotland, temperatures could reach as high as 21C in some places, but as low as 12C in others on Wednesday. Places such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Wick will see mild temperatures but not heatwave conditions.

Wales too will see cooler temperatures than England, as will Cornwall with both popular holiday regions receiving 17C to 21C weather.

Across the UK conditions will be dry with a low chance of the repeat of rain that has blighted the early part of summer. This prediction of late-June heat by Netweather has been reflected by the Met Office’s warning about the heat next week.

Speaking about what people in the UK can expect, Deputy Chief Meteorologist for the Met Office Dan Rudman said: “After a brief, less settled interlude today and tomorrow, fine conditions will return by Sunday and into the beginning of next week. For much of the UK this will be accompanied by a boost in temperatures with many places reaching the mid-20°Cs.”

Mr Rudman added: “Some central and southern areas are likely to see temperatures approaching the values needed for heatwave conditions.

“Heatwave conditions need to remain in situ for three consecutive days, and by the beginning to middle of next week it is possible that some parts of the UK could be reaching heatwave thresholds.

“However, whether or not everyone experiences heatwave thresholds, the majority of the UK will experience the highest temperatures so far this year.

“Confidence in the forecast reduces markedly from Wednesday onwards, with uncertainty in both how long the heat will last and how it will break down, which we will be keeping an eye on for the coming days. However, by next weekend, cooler, changeable conditions become more likely.”
