Thank you to the Lecturate in Social Justice & Diversity in the Arts and to Aminata Cairo for holding space to work alongside you as a student researcher. Being part of such a powerful team was incredibly inspiring. I invite everyone to come and see what it’s all about.>>>>>For the past two years, the Social Justice & Diversity in the Arts (SJDA) research group, founded at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), has developed projects and research exploring what it means to 'move in socially just ways' in and through creative practices.Celebrate SJDA’s 2nd anniversary with us on Wednesday, September 4th, at 19:30 (doors open at 19:00). The evening will feature a keynote by decolonial thinker Professor Rolando Vázquez (University of Amsterdam), presentations, performances, and the launch of SJDA’s new publication. My 2024 so far in a nutshell. January was a great start of the year, was very much busy writing for new fundings for my project Dance your story as part of the Amsterdam750 celebration that willbe held next year 2025. Every moment was enjoyable knowing im doing this project in Amsterdam for the second time. Sooo, still waiting for the final result. Be pending. Meanwhile February was also tensed, because we were waiting for results of different fundings for the same project, but for Aruba with a connection to the history of the island. It was a very uncertain day where we (head of the organisiation and I) got a call from the funding with a few questions and at the end of the same day we had the reaction that they granted the project. The next day I was on the plane on my way to Aruba with a fulfilled feeling that all I have worked for and sacrificed is about to happen. The name is Dance your (hi)story. An interdisciplinary art project with two main organization from Amsterdam and Aruba. Working together with the junior high school, Filomena Mavo. The students will co-create together with art professionals in the field of dance, film, music making and fashion to create a short film within 7 week time. As March began, everything was set for the start of “Dance Your (Hi)story” in Aruba. The students kicked off with an introduction week, eagerly absorbing project details and program schedules. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they filled out questionnaires to join the project. The kickoff class was a success, with everyone eager to contribute to this collective narrative. Additionally, they benefitted from keynote classes by Aminata Cairo and Gregory Richardson Ph.D. along with visits to @archivonationalaruba, Community Museum San Nicolas, and Industrial Museum, providing ample material for their creative endeavors. With everything on track, I’m excited to see what they will produce this month and eagerly await the end result.

Dear friends, I'm leading a project called "Dance Your Story" with junior high school students in Aruba. We're exploring different art forms like dance, filmmaking, music, and fashion. Our focus is on uncovering and reshaping Aruba's history, particularly the stories of indigenous and African peoples. Your support would mean a lot to us as we empower students to connect with their heritage and rewrite their story for future generations.Thank you for considering!https://gofund.me/d0b50b81
